I will be at the Corning Museum of Glass Studio in Corning, New York from Feb 9-14, helping artist Anna Boothe with her class on Glass Kiln-Casting and component assembly. This is my third time as her assistant for this class, in which we teach the students how to make complex molds using a variety of materials- dental casting compounds, wax, clay, plaster… It’s a big, complicated mess and we have a lot of fun.
Corning is my favorite place to take classes because it has outstanding facilities for students, but also has a huge glass collection at the museum, a great library devoted to worldwide glass documentation, and an entire town steeped in glass history and even high-tech glass innovation. Even in the middle of winter in upstate New York, it’s a surprisingly warm and bustling environment.
